About BestCare

BestCare is an app for modern long-term care facilities that compete on quality and a personal approach to every resident. It lifts the paperwork off the shoulders of nurses and facility managers so they can focus on what actually matters — the relationship with another human being. The project was founded by Aleksandra Kobza, a nurse with 15 years of experience, who received the Queen Silvia Nursing Award at the Royal Palace in Stockholm in September 2025 for her innovative approach to palliative and elderly care. The competition, run for 12 years by Queen Silvia Nursing Award International, Swedish Care International and the Medicover Foundation, selected laureates from 5 countries in that edition — Poland was represented by BestCare.

Challenge

Running a care home is a medical and a logistical operation at the same time. Paper records and files scattered across computers delay access to critical information and increase the risk of error — and in caring for a dependent person, every detail counts. BestCare needed a tool that would:

Bring everything about a resident — diagnosis, allergies, diet, support level and family contacts — into one place
Put the most important information in front of a nurse on shift at a glance, with no digging through the system
Let a single manager run several facilities without switching between systems and spreadsheets
Enable instant contact with a resident's legal guardian and with facility staff
Protect sensitive medical data to the standard the care sector demands
Work in both Polish and English from day one, with international markets in mind

Why low-code + AI?

The mobile app stores sensitive medical data, so security and responsiveness mattered as much as the deadline. We built the backend on Supabase.

Supabase allowed us to:

Building the interface with ready-made components instead of coding UI from scratch
Supabase as 'Backend-as-a-Service' — instant authentication and API access right out of the box
Postgres with Row-Level Security: a resident's data is visible only to staff authorized for that facility
Serverless architecture — no servers or complex configuration to maintain
A lower cost of reaching a working product, which for an early-stage startup decides whether it survives
Modular architecture ready for more languages and facilities without rebuilding the system
